Motion Hearing in regards to the Pending Inquest into the Death of Terry Baker

Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Hamilton Office, announced today that a motion will be heard related to the pending inquest into the death of Terry Baker.

Ms. Baker, 30, died in hospital on July 6, 2016, after being transferred from the Grand Valley Institution for Women. An inquest into her death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The motion hearing will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2023, with parties making their submissions remotely.

Dr. David Eden, presiding officer for the inquest, will preside at the motion hearing. Sidney McLean and Kristin Smith will be inquest counsel.

Additional Information

The Presiding Officer has directed that the web streaming of this inquest not be recorded in accordance with the Chief Coroner’s rules of procedure and out of respect to the family of the deceased.
