Inquest into the deaths of Melvin Joyner, Paul Rouen, Bernard Lauzon, Daniel Burkholder, Mykhailo Kouchil, Ronald Guilbeault, and Kung So

Mr. Joyner, 58, died on January 20, 2018; Mr. Rouen, 68, died on February 27, 2018; Mr. Lauzon, 66, died on July 19, 2018; Mr. Burkholder, 61, died on July 20, 2018; Mr. Kouchil, 60, died on December 24, 2018; Mr. Guilbeault, 46, died on July 31, 2019; and Mr. So, 63, died on November 9, 2019. They died from injuries sustained due to falls from heights while working at various construction sites. An inquest into their deaths is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding these deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 8 days and hear from approximately six witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer. Alessandra Hollands and Kristin Smith will be inquest counsel. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on all remaining days.
