Inquest into the Deaths of Danny Clayton Bissonnette, Chase Blanchard, Ronald Jenkins, Raymond Major, James Pigeau, Malcolm Ripley, and Sean Tourand

Mr. Bissonnette, 61, died on March 24, 2021; Mr. Blanchard, 29, died on June 21, 2019; Mr. Jenkins, 49, died on December 9, 2017; Mr. Major, 52, died on June 6, 2017; Mr. Pigeau, 32, died on January 7, 2018; Mr. Ripley, 41, died on November 25, 2020; and Mr. Tourand, 33, died on March 31, 2019. All deaths occurred while in custody at, or after transfer to hospital from the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre in London. Inquests into their deaths are mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 15 days and hear from approximately 15 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024. Dr. John Carlisle will be the presiding officer. Christina Varrette and Julian Roy will be the inquest counsel.
