Inquest into the Death of Sammy Yatim

Mr. Yatim, 18 years old, died in hospital on July 27, 2013, after being shot during an altercation with an officer from the Toronto Police Service. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Yatim’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 13 days and hear from approximately 14 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. Dr. David Cameron will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier and Grace Alcaide Janicas will be inquest counsel.
