The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Dr. John Carlisle will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier will be the inquest counsel.
Mr. Montague, 43 years old, died in hospital on July 23, 2018, while in the custody of the Ontario Provincial Police. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Montague’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last two days and hear from approximately three witnesses.
