Inquest into the Death of Jordan Paim
Mr. Paim, 30 years old, died on July 20, 2021, while in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre in Sault Ste. Marie. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Paim’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last eight days and hear from approximately eight witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024. Murray Segal will be the presiding officer and Grace Alcaide Janicas and Shruti Ramesh will be the inquest counsel.

The Presiding Officer has directed that no person shall make any recording or take photos or screen captures of the Inquest from either the video conference or the live stream of the Inquest over the internet. For greater clarity, no person shall copy, record, screenshot, photograph, publish or broadcast the Inquest or any portion of it, or otherwise disseminate such a record, including through messaging applications, on social media platforms, other internet sites, and/or other methods of instant communication.
