Inquest into the Death of John-Paul George

Mr. George, 42 years old, died in hospital on April 9, 2020, following an interaction in New Liskeard with the Ontario Provincial Police. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. George’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024. Etienne Esquega will be the presiding officer. Uko Abara and Carolyn Leach will be inquest counsel.
