Inquest into the Death of Jayson Elliot

Mr. Elliot, 50, died on May 11, 2021, while in custody at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Elliot’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 5 days and hear from approximately 12 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024. Selwyn Pieters will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier will be inquest counsel.
