Inquest into the Death of Frederick Penner
Mr. Penner, 56, died in hospital on January 1, 2020, of injuries sustained when he was shot by officers of the Niagara Regional Police Service. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Penner’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances.
The inquest is expected to last three weeks and hear from approximately 20 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer. Jai Dhar and Renee Mahoney will be inquest counsel.
