Inquest into the Death of David Rafter-Rycroft
Mr. Rafter-Rycroft, 30 years old, died in hospital on February 16, 2021, after being transferred from the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rafter-Rycroft’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately six witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025. Dr. David Creery will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier will be the inquest counsel.
